PM Congratulates the Class of 2019!

Graduation, Good News About PM19 Childcare, Ignite and Industry/Community Updates!

Greetings PM Family,

As with every academic year, for many the 2018-2019 one has likely proven to be both challenging and rewarding! We are proud of those who make up the Class of 2019 graduates…whether it’s from High School, College, or your podcast education (hint, the learning never stops). This week, we honor them, as well as those of us who are always learning!

Graduation

Graduation is a rite of passage for some. It can signify the move from a previous phase of life, to the next chapter. Graduation is not seen as the end, but the beginning! It commemorates a change for what hopefully will be the better.

We see podcasters launch their show with eagerness and excitement, but we know that the launch is only the starting line. The podcasters that see progress and growth over the long haul understand that adjustments and pivots are necessary throughout the journey. We learn what doesn’t work and then apply new strategies to make corrections and improvements. You can see many examples of this in the FB post below.

Examples

Podcast Movement is a convocation of sorts. We get the family together to encourage one another, celebrate wins and learn strategies to help everyone “graduate” their podcast to the next chapter regardless of experience level!

This week’s graduation themed newsletter shares some good news about childcare at PM19, the return of Ignite and includes some Industry/Community updates.

Let the commencement begin!

Kindergarten Graduation – Nailed It!

We’ve partnered with Lantigua Williams & Co to bring you the best on-site childcare pricing ever!

Podcast Movement has received (what feels like) a Master’s degree in learning about the needs of our various community members. On-site childcare is an idea that came from feedback received from our conference attendees.

However this year, it’s back in a much bigger way thanks to a very generous partner who is helping all podcasting parents in attendance.

PM Community Member, and PM18 & PM19 speaker Juleyka Lantigua-Williams of Lantigua Williams & Co saw this opportunity mentioned in a previous newsletter, and wanted to help make it something that even more parents could take advantage of.

Juleyka decided that the offering for childcare was great, but it would be even better if it were more affordable than ever before! We’re proud to announce that Lantigua Williams and the 70 Million podcast is the official sponsor of Childcare at PM19, making sure that every parent has a safe and affordable option to bring their child to PM.

Lantigua Williams and Co

70 Million is an open-source podcast about local reform in the justice system, and they are sponsoring PM19 Childcare in honor of the 2.7 million children in the US under 18 who have a parent in prison or jail.

You can learn more about childcare at PM19 here, and sign up now. Learn more about, and listen to 70 Million here.

Podcast Movement greatly appreciates this generous gesture by Juleyka and her team, and we hope that you will consider giving her a virtual high five now (and one in-person this August)!

Magna Cum Laude, Summa Cum Laude, Praise the Laude! Ignite is Back!!

Ignite

Podcast Movement is pleased to announce that the popular, and fun, kickoff event known as Ignite is back for the third year in a row at PM19! Freshbooks is the proud sponsor this year for what will likely be the best Ignite yet! We have more good news. The speaker submissions for Ignite are now open.

You may have questions such as “What is Ignite?” and “How can I apply to speak at Ignite?”

You can learn more about Ignite, and how to submit to speak, by clicking here.

  • What’s the best way to listen to podcasts on Apple Watch? – An article by Bradley Chambers – For the Apple Watch, there aren’t as many podcast apps that support watch only playback, but I still wanted to give a round-up of the best ones.

  • Looking for podcasts? Google lets you find and play them in its web search – An article by Simon Cohen – When you search for specific podcasts on the web, say, This American Life, Google will find the most recent episodes and list them with direct-play links.

Bill Nowicki Story

  • Man Shares Stories from Marietta’s Past with Podcast – PM Family Member and PM Sessions Season 3 host Bill Nowicki was featured via CBS46 – Atlanta’s local news. Congratulations to Bill on this cool opportunity!

Closing Remarks

Comedian and Actor Jim Carrey spoke at the Maharishi University of Management commencement ceremony in 2014. His speech focused on chasing his dreams and fear. The most impactful portion of Carrey’s speech came from a story he shared about his father’s apprehension in following his dreams and how he convinced him to follow his own no matter what.

My father could have been a great comedian, but he didn’t believe that was possible for him, and so he made a conservative choice,” Carrey said. “Instead, he got a safe job as an accountant, and when I was 12 years old, he was let go from that safe job and our family had to do whatever we could to survive.

“I learned many great lessons from my father, not the least of which was that you can fail at what you don’t want, so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love.”

Jim Carrey Graduation Speech

Podcasting for many of us is a labor of love. We applaud your decision to take a chance to create something that is your passion. We will do our best to help you along the way. We are as proud of you as any parent or family member that is celebrating the graduation of a loved one in the next few weeks.

Grateful,

Team PM

“A graduation ceremony is an event where the commencement speaker tells thousands of students dressed in identical caps and gowns that ‘individuality’ is the key to success.” – Robert Orban
