Welcome to Part II of our throwback feature on past Podcast Movement speakers!
Podcast Movement features top podcasters as well as the next generation of podcast all-stars every year. We appreciate the validation and contributions from all of our attendees, exhibitors, sponsors, and speakers since the event’s inception. We look forward to providing a platform that will continue to shine a spotlight on the brightest and most giving minds in our industry.
Here are some podcasters, members of the industry and organizations that have supported Podcast Movement in previous years. They have also continued to see their influence increase through hard work and generosity to the podcast community overall. We'll review their generous participation with the conference and what they’re up to now.
Based in Chicago, the Third Coast International Audio Festival curates audio stories from around the world and shares them via radio, podcasts, public events, an annual conference and their website. Third Coast offers producers and listeners a multitude of ways to celebrate audio storytelling. They have also done a fantastic job of fostering a who's who of talent in podcasting over the years.
Podcast Movement had the privilege of honoring Third Coast with the Contributions to Podcasting Award in 2016. Above is executive director and co-founder Johanna Zorn accepting the award which honors non-podcasters who have made significant contributions to the industry.
Helen Zaltzman is an English podcaster, broadcaster, and writer. She is best known for her work with Olly Mann on the award-winning comedy podcast Answer Me This!, as well as her linguistics podcast The Allusionist. She recently announced a new show with co-host Jenny Owen Youngs, the Veronica Mars Investigations podcast. As if she weren't busy enough, Helen also serves as the primary admin for the Podcasters' Support Group on Facebook.
Helen participated in two panels at Podcast Movement 2017. One was titled “How to Feed the Beast,” and the other was focused on live touring for podcasters. She recently completed a tour in Australia and is planning more dates for the Northern Hemisphere later this year.
Dan Taberski is best known for hosting the investigative journalism podcast Missing Richard Simmons in 2017. The podcast was met with mixed reviews from critics, but proved popular with audiences, topping the Apple podcast charts in Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States. In the U.S. the podcast spent almost three weeks in the #1 spot.
Dan shared how Missing Richard Simmons found its narrative style in an on-stage conversation with Lex Friedman from Midroll. It was one of the most exciting sessions at Podcast Movement 2017 in Anaheim.
Dan spends his time currently focused on Headlong, a documentary podcast series that explores the lives of overlooked people, moments, and events in our culture. He released Surviving Y2K for Season 2 and Running From COPS for Season 3.
Bruce Pritchard and Conrad Thompson host Something to Wrestle, one of the top wrestling podcasts in the world. The show is a two-time sports podcast award winner. They shared their podcast journey at Podcast Movement 2018 in Philadelphia. The panel discussed their unique approach to audience engagement, ad reads, live touring, Patreon, and more. Attendees were blown away by what the “wrestler guys” had to say.
Bruce Prichard continues to do the podcast but has since returned full time with the WWE as a member of the Creative Team. Conrad continues his successful mortgage business in Huntsville, AL. He also co-hosts other podcasts, including What Happened When with Tony Schiavone, 83 Weeks with Eric Bischoff and Grilling JR with Jim Ross.
