Charlamagne Tha God and The Black Effect Podcast Network

Radio presenter Charlamagne Tha God has announced the launch of The Black Effect Podcast Network. Jay Connor of The Root writes that the new network aims to “educate, enlighten and entertain audiences while putting money and muscle behind some of the most influential Black voices of today.”

A partnership with iHeartMedia, the network’s podcasts will cover pop culture, social justice, mental health, and a wide variety of topics that impact the Black community. Charlamagne’s nationally syndicated radio show The Breakfast Club, co-hosted by DJ Envy and Angela Yee, will serve as the flagship show.

Charlamagne said in a statement: “Our goal is to shift the narrative from Black creators signing transactional deals, to instead forming legacy partnerships that build generational wealth while allowing each creative to have an equitable stake in their future.” In Connor’s words, it’s a “major power move.”

Here’s what else is going on:

• Copy that: A new Descript feature, Overdub Stock Voices, allows users to generate audio “in a number of voices and styles that aren’t their own.” When an ultra-realistic clone of your own voice won’t cut it, try Ethan, Nancy, Ruth, Henry, Emily, Malcolm, Carla, or Don.
