Episode 306: Your Midweek Update

Guest Feature: No Path to Podcasting Income is the Same

Before Melanie Scroggins, Hailey Thomas, and Gina Horkey started Podcast Production School last fall, they’d each discovered podcasting in different ways. Their individual journeys show how podcasting can create income streams, whether approached from a business perspective or grown out of passion.

Inspired by an episode of Radiolab, Scroggins experimented with her first podcast in 2017. Soon after, friends with businesses came calling. “Wait…someone wanted to pay me to make them a podcast?” she asks, looking back. “That’s how my podcast hobby turned into a podcast side hustle and, eventually, a full-time gig.”

Over the last year, the three have found a niche in preparing small businesses to launch, manage, and grow podcasts. They’ve written their round-robin guest feature to illustrate realistic opportunities in audio, and how to “stretch your creative muscles and even earn some extra money while you’re at it.”
