Entries are now open for the 25th Annual Webby Awards, and podcasts are front and center. Since 1996, The Webby Awards has honored the world’s best digital creators, media makers, inventors, artists, and innovators on the internet. Past winners in podcasting include Gimlet Media, PRX, and Pineapple Street Media.
Honors for outstanding work in podcasts include Business, Diversity and Inclusion, News and Politics, Best Host, and Best Writing and Craft. Individual episodes, mini-series, and specials are recognized as well. Pod Save the People host and activist DeRay Mckesson (above) is one of the many expert judges in the podcast ecosystem.
Called “the Internet's highest honor” by The New York Times, The Webby Awards is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences — a 2000+ member judging body. Check out past winners and nominees and new judges for 2021. Early entry pricing will apply prior to the Early Deadline on Friday, October 30th.
The Black & Brown Podcast Collective has announced the “Black Women, the Experience” Podcast Grant. Unrestricted microgrants will be awarded to Black women who are sharing their unique stories and experiences through podcasting. Applications will be available starting tomorrow, Wednesday, October 14.
“Unfortunately, at times, the narratives of Black women are often overlooked and forgotten. At times it’s silenced, misconstrued, changed, and often miscommunicated,” writes founder Marsha. The Collective, an extension of the postponed Black & Brown Podcast Festival and Awards, seeks to help change that reality.
Applications will be evaluated based on message and impact, differentiation and uniqueness, and consistency. Grant amounts will range from $250 to $1,000 depending on the podcast’s content, length, and need. To submit, support, and learn more, sign up for The Black & Brown Podcast Collective free of charge.
