Episode 116: Your Midweek Update

Matriarch Digital Media: A Rising Twin Cities Women's Network

Erica Pearson of the Minneapolis Star Tribune speaks to Twila Dang, the CEO and founder of Matriarch Digital Media. The Twin Cities-based network produces podcasts that “aim to change the conversation around women” in an uplifting, supportive context.

Dang shares the origin story of Matriarch, where she serves as “creative producer, top executive and everything in between.” After several years as a radio host and producer, Dang launched the new venture at a critical moment.

“We have a very specific mission for the company, and it is to change the way the world talks to and talks about women and girls,” Dang tells Pearson. “We deserve better, and we can set a better standard.” Matriarch currently produces six shows with “seven more on the way.”

Foresight is 2020: Observations and Predictions from Hot Pod

Nicholas Quah and Caroline Crampton cover the “major story threads” of their industry predictions in Hot Pod’s “Foresight is 2020.” Alternative ad possibilities, creative worker conditions, and the goal of a shared, global industry language get well-deserved airtime.

“Between whatever’s happening with the platforms, the increasing inflow of money and eager new participants, the fact that there is still so much to do, and the 2020 presidential election cycle,” they assert, 2020 will be quite the rollercoaster.

In the preview issue, they dive into “10 major story buckets,” making note of related story threads before sharing creative and content-related observations.
