Variety reports that “Google and public radio distributor PRX have teamed up for a 10-part educational series meant to teach budding podcasters how to perfect their craft. Podcasting 101 […] will show podcasters how to record professional-sounding audio, how to write scripts, how to monetize their shows and more.”
“The video series is being hosted by Luvvie Ajayi, host of the Rants & Randomness and Jesus & Jollof podcasts, as well as Sean Rameswaram, host of Vox Media’s daily news podcast Today, Explained. It will be made available with subtitles in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Hindi and Arabic to reach audiences around the globe.”
“’We aim to fuel the growth of podcasting around the world by providing the next generation of audio-makers with the tools and training needed to succeed,’ said PRX CEO Kerri Hoffman.”
“What if there was a way to know that your web visitors were interested in hearing more from you?” ask RadioPublic’s Matt MacDonald and Ma’ayan Plaut. For podcasters with a Pro account, RadioPublic has just beta launched advanced listener acquisition, “encouraging email submission for curious web visitors that have indicated an interest in spending some quality time with your show.”
Their method of acquisition deviates from typical marketing strategy, reacting to interest over presence. “Striking the balance between respecting your visitors and asking a small, helpful question requires some thought and intentional design,” MacDonald and Plaut explain.
Using their model is “easy, respectful, and hopefully mutually beneficial for all: they get an awesome podcast to listen to—yours!—and you have a way to continue connecting with them in the future.”
Brooklyn-based comedian Anita Flores is the newest podcaster featured in TechCrunch’s “How I Podcast” series. On I’m Listening: A Frasier Podcast “each episode of the series examines a piece of everyone’s favorite “Cheers” spin-off with a different guest, including recent appearances by Rachel Bloom and John Hodgman.”
Flores records I’m Listening in producer Caitlyn Moldenhauer’s studio at More Banana Productions. “It’s a beautiful space that captures the essence of what More Banana is all about: A podcast network with women-led production,” she says. Details of the podcasting life, such as equipment and remote interview solutions, wouldn’t be complete without the lowdown on official studio pet Ella the French bulldog.
