Per a Deadline exclusive, “Spotify is in final negotiations with HBO Max to adapt hit family podcast The Two Princes into a film.” The LGBTQ series was being courted by “multiple parties” for an adaptation, writes Anthony D'Alessandro.
“Building on the success of shows like Amazon’s Homecoming and buzzy announcements like The Nod, there is increasing trans-media demand for original podcasts as IP fuel for film and TV,” D'Alessandro observes.
The youth-focused, comedic fairytale love story has received high praise from critics since its debut last summer. The cast of the film is “yet to be determined,” but series writer Kevin Christopher Snipes is confirmed to be on board.
A blog post from Supercast co-founder Aidan Hornsby outlines creative possibilities for listener-supported podcast memberships. To offer a ‘premium’ option an audience will truly find valuable, Hornsby writes, “it’s as simple as giving listeners more of what they already love — and what you already have.”
