First Keynotes Announced, Choose Your Own Adventure at PM24, and Last Call for Scholarships!

Happy Wednesday, PM Family!

Podcast Movement 2024 is around the corner, and we're coming to you a day early this week, as tomorrow is Independence Day for our U.S. readers.. and a happy belated Canada Day to those of you in the Great White North.

This week, we celebrate the independence that attendees have while at our annual Podcast Movement event, as well as the independents who will join us from around the world!

We’re also reminding you that your chance at applying for a Podcast Movement scholarship (and free PM24 pass) ends THIS WEEK, and more.

Let’s go!

Independence at Podcast Movement

With tomorrow being Independence Day in the United States, we thought it would be appropriate to highlight a question we get often, and that we love answering: Who is Podcast Movement for, and is it for me?

If you’ve made it this far, we think the answer is a resounding YES.

Podcast Movement is home to everyone involved with podcasting, be it the creator side, the business side, or somewhere in between. Whether you’re brand new or extremely experienced, our community has a place for you.

We also want to highlight the independence aspect of the conference itself, because at the event, you are free to do what you want, when you want. If you’re a creator but you’re interested in learning more about the business, join us on one of our industry stages, or set up a meeting with a network or advertiser through our event platform. If you work for a brand but have a great idea for a show that you’d like to pitch to your team, we’ve got several stages where you can learn everything from the basics to the expert-level knowledge you’ll need.

We casually call Podcast Movement a “choose your own adventure” style event, and we think it’s an adventure you’ll want to be a part of. Above is a preview of some of the activations and activities taking place this year inside Podcast Movement Central, and you’re invited to join us for it all.

Independents at Podcast Movement

Last week we profiled some of the opportunities for podcast industry professionals at PM24, but this week is all about the creators, with a focus on independent podcasters joining us this August in DC.

At Podcast Movement, we’re independent podcasters ourselves, so we know what it’s like to be alone, whether it’s recording by yourself, writing your own show notes and scripts, or not knowing who to turn to for help. Believe it or not, this is why Podcast Movement came to be.

We created PM so that podcasters could have a place to go, in person and online, to share their successes and struggles, ask questions and help give answers, and ultimately become a better, more successful podcaster. And whatever success looks like for you, we’ve got something that can help this summer.

In fact, this year our next announced keynote session is lead by two independent creators who have been running a collective and studio full-time since 2018!

10 years after Serial, 5 years since Gimlet got acquired, a year since the “Death of Podcasting,” people are always trying to tell us what makes a hit podcast. But if you trusted your ears and your gut, you probably made a better show than the companies that spent millions of dollars on celebrity talent and marketing budgets. Let Eric Silver & Amanda McLoughlin, co-founders of Multitude, a podcast collective and studio who have been doing this full time since 2018, explain how they made the shows they wanted to make and how that brought in devoted audiences.

In addition to this main stage talk, check out some of the sessions that are featured on-stage geared towards people like you:

  • Podcast Editing 101: Optimize Your Workflow from Start to Finish taught by Independent Audio Producer and Podcast Editor George Mocharko
  • Cinematic Podcasting: How to Create Immersive Worlds featuring the hosts of NPR’s Throughline podcast
  • Growing Your Podcast. Top Lessons from Podcast Growth Experts
  • From Solo to Sponsored: Learn How to Develop Lucrative Partnerships from an Independent Podcaster with 60+ Sponsors
  • The 4 Most Profitable Monetization Strategies For Podcasters
  • 3 Key Strategies that Helped Me Go Full Time

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to education….we’ve got over 100 sessions for you to pick from at Podcast Movement.

Every summer since 2014, Podcast Movement has gathered thousands of passionate podcasters and industry professionals from around the world under one roof to learn, grow professionally, and most importantly evolve and improve the podcast community.

LAST CALL TO APPLY for a PM24 Scholarship and a Complimentary Pass to Podcast Movement

We are excited to announce that scholarship applications are open for Podcast Movement this August! This is your opportunity to join industry leaders, innovators, and experts in a vibrant setting where you can enhance your skills and connect with fellow podcasters.

This scholarship is designed for those who are new to podcasting, have never attended a Podcast Movement event, and would not be able to attend without this support. APPLICATIONS CLOSE THIS FRIDAY!

REMINDER: Stay Where the Action is!

We’re excited for Podcast Movement to take place this year at one of our favorite venues ever: Gaylord National in National Harbor. The hotel features an amazing atrium, fun restaurants and bars, plus unbeatable views of the harbor.

And National Harbor itself is one of the most walkable places to ever host Podcast Movement, with over 40 restaurants, shopping outlets, water activities, and more, just steps away from the hotel.

But don’t delay, our hotel rooms always sell out, and we’ve negotiated special rates. Book your room today.

The Podcast Movement summer is just getting started, and we can’t wait to share more big PM24 updates! Until next time…
