Adding your podcast to IMDB, plus “meetup” with us next week!

Greetings PM Family,

This week we share how you can add your podcast to IMDb. We are also excited to open up RSVPs for our next virtual community meetup!

Add Your Podcast To IMDb

Margaritas and Donuts with Faith McQuinn

IMDb announced a few weeks ago that it is now accepting listings for audio-only podcasts. IMDb is an accessible online database of information related to films, television programs, home videos, video games, and streaming content online – including cast, production crew, and personal biographies, plot summaries, trivia, ratings, and fan, and critical reviews, according to Wikipedia.

It's exciting to think that podcasters can now have their shows credited in IMDb. Here are a few things that we know about this so far:

  • The process is a bit roundabout, but worth it.
  • Podcasts are listed under “TV Series” for the time being. We are not sure why that is.
  • You can enter the necessary information, but others must contribute by filling in the synopsis/details.
  • James Cridland of Podnews says, “There's no link to the RSS feed nor the audio. For now.”

How can I add my show to IMDb?

Here is the IMDb help article that explains the steps. We've attempted to summarize them here.

  • The title must adhere to the following guidelines:
  • Be of general public interest.
  • Released on TV and/or released on video, the Internet, or print made available to the public.
  • If your title is within the guidelines, then you can proceed by filling out the following form.
  • You will receive an email receipt for this submission and will be able to track your submission here.
  • Please use the following formats to list podcasts.

Podcasts (Audio & Video)
The name formatting of a podcast remains the same as a usual title e.g., The Joe Rogan Experience

If episodic, please submit as type Made for TV with the sub-type TV-Series

If stand-alone, please submit as type Made for Video

  • For all, please add the keywords: category-podcast
  • If audio-only, then please also add the keyword audio-only.”
  • A link where the podcast can be watched or listened to should be submitted in the Miscellaneous Link section, with the description WebsiteName – Full audio, or WebsiteName – Full video, as appropriate.

Save The Date For Our Next Virtual Meetup!

We had our first virtual meetup last month, and it was awesome! We are planning our next virtual meetup for Thursday, June 25, at 8:00 pm ET.

Note: We understand that this time is not ideal for everyone. We would love to get your feedback on this. Please feel free to hit reply to this email and let us know what other times would work best for you. We will do our best to consider this for future meetups.

Perfection Is The Enemy

Podcasting provides many beautiful lessons. Some lessons relate to what works. However, other lessons teach us what not to continue doing in the future. It's not uncommon to try one idea and then learn that it's necessary to pivot or shift to another approach that works even better.

We love the saying “ABC: Action Brings Clarity!” We urge you not to get discouraged when things aren't quite right yet. Remember that the pursuit of perfection can prevent you from learning valuable lessons that are necessary for you & your show to grow and improve.

Do you have a story of how you thought your podcast would go in a particular direction, only to find that it was better to pivot and pursue something better for your show? Please let us know. We love to share good stories.

Your podcast is needed right now!
