Greetings PM Family,
It is a challenging time for many members of our community, but we're constantly doing our best to find solutions to help you as much as possible. Our team put together a shortlist of online “side hustle” jobs for podcasters that are looking to make some extra money.
We'll kick off the newsletter with the Top 10. Also, last week, we announced an important upcoming project that we've been working on. This is our last call for feedback via a short survey!
Finally, we wrap up with some bonus financial resources and links for podcasters.
Top 10 Online “Side Hustles” for
Podcasters
Here is a list of 10 online side hustles for podcasters. You may not need this, but you may know of a fellow podcaster who has lost their day job or is currently on furlough. Would you be willing to consider sharing this information with them?
Various members of our community helped us with suggestions to curate this list. The opportunities are not podcast-centric. They also have multiple roles that anyone could do with basic computer skills. That said, most of these side hustles can create additional money ranging from $12 to $35 an hour (results may vary).
Note: Our team has not participated in or had personal experience with every site mentioned.
- Work for Amazon – Did you know that you can work flexible hours and get paid by working for one of the world's largest retailers? How it works: Various businesses submit intelligent human tasks (hits) to the website, and then workers like you choose the micro-jobs that they want to complete and then submit for payment.
You can make an extra $150 to $300 a week doing some of these tasks. The amount of time to complete the tasks vary, and so does the compensation. The types of jobs include short transcriptions, surveys, and Google search descriptions. Three hours of work could earn you between $25 to $30 an hour.
- Tutoring – You can provide private classes at home just by using video chat. If you have some SAT knowledge or you know a language very well, you can set your schedule and become a part-time tutor online.
Chegg Tutors is a reputable site for finding students and starts by paying $20 an hour. You get paid every week, and top tutors can get paid upwards to $1000 a month.
Here are a few other companies that offer similar options.
- Freelancing – You can do everything from writing, graphic design, marketing, web programming, and more online. Businesses will post a project looking for specialized talent. You then reply to that project with your experience by posting your best bid amount for that particular job.
Podcast Movement uses Upwork all the time for a variety of tasks that come up. It has worked well for us over the years. Here are a few other companies that offer similar options.
- Testing Websites (up to $60 an hour) – Have you ever visited a website and thought about how great your experience was or was not? This type of opportunity allows you to get paid to share about the good, the bad, and the ugly for various websites.
Website owners compensate you for testing their websites. It can be as simple as opening a website, browsing, clicking around, sharing your thoughts, and then getting paid via PayPal.
Here are a few other companies that offer similar options.
- WhatUsersDo – $6 per test.
- TryMyUI – $10 for each test you take.
- Enroll App – Lower pay but easy to use.
- Transcribing Audios – A transcriptionist is someone who listens to recorded or live audio files and converts them into text format.
These companies offer their services to a variety of industries. We heard you could earn anywhere from $150 up to $1,200 a month.
- Virtual Assistant Jobs – Many companies look to hire part-time virtual assistants for project-based online administrative tasks.
The work could range from responding to emails, calendar management, answering support tickets, social media management, presentation preparation, and a variety of other customer service-oriented tasks. Here is another company that is also hiring.
- Online Survey Jobs – There are dozens of online research companies recruiting new individuals from around the world. They rely on people just like you to share their opinions on anything ranging from shampoo to the latest iPhone. They pay you in rewards for your feedback.
This work can typically pay anywhere between $2.00 to $75.00 for each survey that you complete. You can sign up for as many of these sites as possible to receive more opportunities.
- Sell Your Voice – Podcasters can have lovely sounding voices and make between $30 and $60 an hour speaking into your microphone (if not more with experience and time). A great way to get started is by using a site like Snap Recordings. They specialize in telephone greetings.
You can also go over to Fiverr and list your services there. You can grow your confidence, experience, and then go over to Voices.com to expand your options. As a member of the Voices.com community, you will have access to new voiceover job postings daily that you can send and submit samples of your voice for consideration for gigs.
The PM Facebook group has several paid voiceover artists in our community. I'm sure that they would be happy to answer questions that you may have about this process.
ACX (Narrarate Audio Books) – Choose the books that you want to submit an audition! Through ACX, you can find an unlimited number of potential acting gigs, and the audiobooks you produce will be available on Audible, Amazon, and iTunes.
Choose how you'd like to get paid for your narration work:
- Your per-finished-hour rate, paid upon successful completion of the audiobook.
- Share royalties from sales with the Rights Holder.
- Sell Your Crafts – The sky is the limit if you happen to be an at-home crafter. All you need is a passion for crafts, a reliable internet connection, and a decent camera.
Selling on Etsy is a great way to monetize your crafting hobby. The transaction fee is around 3.5%, which makes it cheaper than using eBay or Amazon.
- Remote Job Websites – These are online boards that focus specifically on work from home jobs. They create remote open professional positions.
The openings are broken down by roles in which country you need to be in, but most jobs can be performed anywhere in the world. Here are a few other companies that offer similar options.
