The Inaugural Ambies Awards Streaming This Sunday

The inaugural Ambies Awards, The Awards For Excellence in Audio, will stream live this Sunday evening from Los Angeles. The Podcast Academy Chair Donald Albright emphasizes the variety among nominees: “The Academy is excited to see independent podcasters recognized at the inaugural Ambies.”

Say Their Name from DCP Entertainment is nominated for the top prize, Podcast of the Year, and the fiction podcast Dem Times from Our Day Media has two nominations,” Albright continued. “Indie shows like these deserve the same opportunity for recognition and discovery as shows backed by major studios.”

The show will be hosted by comedian and podcaster Cameron Esposito (Queery). Honors will be presented in 23 categories, including Best Scriptwriting and Best Performer in fiction podcasts. It all begins on YouTube and Twitch at 8:00 pm ET/5:00 PT, with a pre-show starting at 7:30 pm ET/4:30 PT.

Essential Preparation for Podcast Sponsor Outreach

Sponsor outreach isn’t just a process, it’s an opportunity that podcasters make or break with their approach. This Friday, True Native Media founder Heather Osgood reveals exactly what goes into a successful contact plan. A podcast advertising expert, she specializes in conversations that get results.

How should podcasters nail down their list of companies to contact? Why study the tone of their branding? Osgood offers actionable tips that will help creators define and position blended-genre shows. Never leave it up to the company to visualize the connection between their brand and your content.

This is the second in a three-part series, following Podcast Preparedness: Is Your Show Ready To Take On Advertisers? The third will dive into what to expect once sponsorships begin. Always look ahead, she says. “Successful partnerships begin with preparation, and I look forward to being your guide.”

Where there is perfection there is no story to tell.

Here's what else is going on:

  • Inside out: Leaked podcast feeds from dozens of subscription-only shows are available to stream through Castbox, reports Ashley Carman of The Verge. “Private feeds still have a glaring downside: these links can be easily shared, and anyone with the link can access private content.”
  • Mix tapes: Pineapple Street Studios is now accepting pitches to help them shape The 11th, a new ‘mystery box’ variety series launching this summer. They’re seeking “diverse stories in every sense of the word,” including original reporting, concept albums, musicals, and miniseries.
  • Even lines: A podcast’s publishing schedule is more important than it may seem, says Dan Misener of Pacific Content. He breaks down the release cadences of 200 all-time top shows, demonstrating “a best practice that applies to almost every podcaster out there: consistency over time.”
